We first saw Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, in Justice League, giving us a laid-back surfer vibe. He’s reluctant to be a hero and is contented to hide in a remote fishing village until Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) convinces him otherwise. That was so last year.
Next month, we’re going full throttle into Aquaman, digging into his past, and how he reconciles with being a child of the sea and land. And from what we see from the trailer so far, director James Wan is going to bring us into a fantastic journey into the underwater world of Atlantis.
With the newly released posters, let’s take a closer look at the characters of Aquaman.
Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman (Jason Momoa)
Curry is half-Human and half-Atlantean, and the reluctant king of the undersea nation of Atlantis. He has the power to communicate with aquatic life, control ocean tides, swim at lightning speeds and has superhuman strength.
Princess Mera (Amber Heard)
Meara is the daughter of King Nereus, who is the leader of the kingdom of Xebel. She’s a warrior and was raised by Queen Atlanna and is groomed to become queen. Mera has hydrokinetic and telepathic powers, which means she can control the sea and communicate with Atlanteans.
Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman)
The regal Queen of Atlantis and mother to Arthur Curry. While she left Atlantis to see the world, she was caught in a hurricane and was saved by a lonely lighthouse keeper, Tom Curry. He nursed her back to health and the two fall in love, and Atlanna gave birth to Arthur.
Orm aka Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson)
He’s the ruler of Atlantis and Arthur Curry’s half-brother. He yearns to unite the seven underwater kingdoms to declare war on the surface world, because he believes that humanity has caused much sea pollution. Orm is actually Aquaman's fully human half-brother, the son of Tom Curry (Aquaman's father) and Mary O'Sullivan. To breathe underwater, he made a special costume and helmet to help him breathe underwater.
Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe)
He is Atlantis’ official counsellor and becomes Arthur Curry’s mentor when he first arrives in Atlantis.
King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren)
He’s the king of Xebel, an Atlantean tribe and father to Mera.
Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II)
He’s a mercenary and a ruthless treasure hunter with a knack for creating deadly technological innovations.
