Blade Runner

The new spy thriller, Red Sparrow, starring The Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence and directed by Francis Lawrence, may also include renowned actor Joel Edgerton. It is believed that the film’s producers are in early talks with the 42-year-old actor. Set in Russia and based on events there, Red Sparrow is about a woman (Jennifer Lawrence) becoming a mole for the CIA against her will. Joel Edgerton, if he accepts the lead role, will play the man responsible for coordinating her penetration of Russian intelligence.

Loving, a Jeff Nichols’ film currently screening in TIFF. In 1958, an interracial couple (Joel Edgerton and
Ruth Negga) are sentenced to prison for getting married.

Edgerton will be a welcome addition to the cast as his acting prowess is a cut above the rest. He has previously starred in movies such as Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Great Gatsby and Warrior, amongst many others. His skills and experience extend way beyond acting  though, as he also wrote, directed and co-produced The Gift, the award-nominated psychological thriller.

Jane Got a Gun

We have selected two of Edgerton’s work, the first being Jane Got a Gun, co-starring Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor. This rare western jewel is about a woman enlisting the help of her ex-lover to save her husband who has a gang out to kill him.

Midnight Special

The second movie is the drama Midnight Special. This unearthly drama with an emotional punch is about a father and son on the run. The child’s extraordinary powers are attracting the attention of both the government and a cult group. Edgerton plays the friend of the father, played by Michael Shannon, who assists their escape, and steals every scene he's in.

Both of these movies are perfect examples of Edgerton’s diverse talents as an actor and will help kill the Monday blues. Until he decides whether to accept the role in Red Sparrow, these two films will give you your fix of this talented actor.
