When the first Scream movie came out, it brought a whole new game to horror movies. The slasher flick is a dream come true for horror/gore fans. The premise is this, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) lost her mum a year ago in a horrific murder. On her death anniversary, Sidney finds herself the target of a killer, who’s hell-bent to kill her and her friends. Except the killer doesn’t just want to kill, he wants to taunt, using horror movies as a reference in a sickly murder game.

It’s been 22 years since the movie hit the cinemas, let’s take a look at where the Scream actors are doing now.

Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott)

Then:
She’s the main character in all four Scream movies, growing bolder, more confident and became an expert in the horror movie genre. Neve Campbell graduated from the family TV series Party of Five to the big screen with the movie The Craft (1996) before hitting it big with Scream. Campbell plays Prescott with a certain spunk and grew her character from being a helpless teen to a confident adult.

Now:
These days, Campbell spends most of her time on the small screen, guest appearing in series like Mad Men, Grey’s Anatomy and a recurring role in House of Cards. She does, however, occasionally make an appearance on the big screen. She last appeared in Skyscraper with Dwayne Johnson. Although her fame never hit the heights of her Scream Days, Campbell still enjoys plenty of acting gig and her name still sounds familiar to many.

Skyscraper

Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers)

Then:
Cox was an established actress by the time she became Gale, thanks to her decade-long appearance on the popular TV series Friends. As Gale Weathers, she is the pesky reporter who wouldn’t let Sidney have a moment of peace. She’s fame hungry and would stop at nothing to get her story, and often tries to work her way on Deputy Dewey Riley (David Arquette) to get her scoop.

Now:
It was filming the movies that Cox met and fell in love with Arquette. The pair married in 1999 and called it quits in 2013. She also spent more time on the small screen, with her own TV series named Cougar Town. Since the series ended, she’s been guest-starring mostly in TV series, such as Mothers and Daughters, Drunk History and more. These days, however, she’s more known as BFF to Jennifer Aniston.

David Arquette (Dewey Riley)

Then:
Arquette comes from an acting family. His father, Lewis Arquette was an actor and his mother was an acting teacher. All his four other siblings are also actors, with the most famous one being Rosanna Arquette. Arquette made his first major acting debut in Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1992, and Scream is his first major film role. As deputy Dewy, he’s more a nice friend than police material. He’s fiercely protective of Sidney but has a soft spot for Gale.

Now:
After the Scream series wrapped, Arquette appeared in a long string of TV series and movies and even dabbled in voice-acting in the children’s series- Jake and the Never Land Pirates. Although he’s not been involved in any blockbuster movies, he’s still working steadily.

Drew Barrymore (Casey Becker)

Then:
Barrymore famously turned down the role of Sidney Prescott to take on the short-lived role of Casey, who opens the film and dies a spectacular death. Those first 10 minutes of the movie was one of the most gripping opening scenes. Barrymore wanted to play a smaller part because she felt it will throw audiences off, thinking she might not be killed. Barrymore has been a household name since she was six, appearing in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Her appearance in Scream adds weight and depth to the movie.

Now:
Barrymore is kept busy after her brief appearance in the first movie. She’d gone on to be one of three Charlie’s Angels twice, made a bunch of romantic comedies like 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer and more. She’s also involved in TV series, starring as a zombie-like yet human character in Santa Clarita Diet. Beyond acting, she’s busy with her own beauty line Flower Beauty and gave birth to two girls.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

Skeet Ulrich (Billy Loomis)

Then:
Before Scream, Ulrich appeared in a couple of movies like The Craft, and Boys, but none as memorable as his role in the movie. As Billy, he is Sidney’s boyfriend who isn’t what he seems.

Now:
Since Scream, Ulrich's career echoes that of his co-stars, turning to guest starring roles in TV series instead of continuing with movies. He had a recurring role in Law and Order: LA and did voice-acting work for Robot Chicken. His most recent role is in the popular teen series, Riverdale.

Liev Schreiber (Cotton Weary)

Then:
Schreiber was a bit-part actor when he appeared in Scream as Cotton Weary, who’s been the main suspect to the murder of Sidney’s mom, Maureen Prescott. His character grew from being as suspect to a talk show host as the movies progress.

Now:
Schreiber’s career took off after Scream. He appeared as Sabretooth in X-Men: Origins, Spotlight, The Manchurian Candidate, Taking Woodstock and had two kids with actress Naomi Watts. His latest role is in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, voicing a character named The Kingpin.

Spotlight

Rose McGowan (Tatum Riley)

Then:
McGowan’s Hollywood debut is in a small part in Encino Man (1992), starring Brendan Fraser. She played Tatum, Sidney’s best friend and Dewey’s sister. She only appeared in the first movie, having met an untimely death midway through the movie.

Now:
After Scream, McGowan is mostly known as one of the Charmed (TV series) sisters as well as Pam in the two Quentin Tarantino movies, Death Proof and Grindhouse. These days, however, McGowan has moved away from acting and focused her energy on directing and being an activist. In 2017, she gained attention for being one of the women who brought light to the wrongdoings of Harvey Weinstein, whom she claimed raped her. Since her story broke, she has been extremely vocal about the #MeToo cause and champions passionately about it.
