Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone don’t even make eye contact in the first scene they share in La La Land, but there is no doubt that a spark is there.

This is immediately noticeable to the audience because of the undeniable chemistry that exists between Gosling and Stone. As the film progresses and the character of Mia and Sebastian gradually fall in love, this seems very natural to the viewers because of the relationship between the two actors. The director of this movie, Damien Chazelle, has said in the past that the relationship between the two reminds him of Hollywood stars of the past such as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Fans who have seen the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love have seen evidence of this chemistry before. One of the most iconic scenes of the movie is when Stone's character returns to the house to spend the night with Gosling’s character after previously rejecting him. Although you can almost see what is coming next, you still find yourself rooting for the two to get together.
The connection was also obvious to the other members of cast and crew on Crazy, Stupid, Love. In fact, one of the main reasons that Emma Stone got the part was because of the chemistry that could be seen between the two from the very first audition. The audition went so well that they even ended up improvising some of their lines and this was something that co-director Glenn Ficarra was delighted with.
The pair have appeared together on the big screen three times (from top – Crazy, Stupid, Love. Gangster Squad and Lala Land)
There has been no romantic link between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in real life but it is clear that they both think very highly of each other. In the past, Gosling has spoken about how easy she is to work with and how they are able to bounce ideas off each other until they get things just right. Whether there will be anything between them in the future remains to be seen.
If you enjoyed watching the two actors together in La La Land, then you will really enjoy Crazy, Stupid, Love. The plot in that film is not centred around them in the same way as it is in La La Land, but they are certainly still two of the best things about the movie. La La Land may be the movie of the moment but for Stone and Gosling, Crazy, Stupid, Love was where it all began.
