The ending to a saga, a doctor who talks to animals and a couple navigating the rough waters of divorce. The recent release of movie trailers for the next few months are looking good. The biggest movie of the year since The Avengers has to be the last of the Star Wars saga- The Rise of Skywalker. Apart from that, there are a few other exciting trailers that we’ve seen so far. Here are four movie trailers we are most excited about for the year-end period.

Marriage Story

Release date: 6 December 2019

Black Widow and Kylo Ren team up in this movie about marriage, how it started off sweet and ends in shreds. Having played an Avenger for a decade, Scarlett Johansson reminds us that she can handle drama pretty well. There’s no fancy costume, no sleek hairstyle and no heavy makeup, just Johansson showing us a raw, vulnerable performance that brings back memories of Lost in Translation. Adam Driver plays her on-screen husband, and like in Paterson, Driver gives an insightful portrayal of a husband, father and an artist. The pair share a son, and somewhere along the way, they fell apart and goes through a divorce. The trailer is heart-warming, funny, and sad at the same time. If you miss Johansson’s more personal performances pre-superhero days, Marriage Story should be a good watch.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Release date: 19 December 2019

Surely, this trailer would have given any Star Wars fans goosebumps. The movie will mark an end of an era for Star Wars, and it better be good. The Last Jedi received mixed reviews, with most fans disappointed with the lacklustre storyline. With J.J. Abrams, who directed A Force Awakens, back at the director’s helm, we are expecting great things. So far, the trailer looks promising, especially when we see the hint of Emporer Palpatine and Rey and Kylo Ren facing off with each other. It was especially poignant to see Carrie Fisher, back as General Leia, as this would mark the absolute last time we’ll see her on the big screen. The trailer hints at epic space battles, alludes that Rey is being seduced by the dark side and the return of Palpatine. We can’t wait for December!

Dolittle

Release date: 16 January 2020

If there’s any word we can use to describe the Dolittle trailer, it would be majestic. Sweeping landscapes and slow-motion of jungle animals are accompanied by a cover of Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. This iteration of Dolittle is a stark contrast to the Eddie Murphy version. It follows closer to the version created by Hugh Lofting, who wrote a series of books about a doctor who can communicate with animals. Robert Downey Jr., who has retired his Iron Man suit since the character’s death in Avengers: Endgame, stars as the title character. And while he is now an English veterinarian, you can still see the signature RDJ charm. All animal lovers need to watch this.

Bombshell

Release date: 24 January 2020

When the teaser first came out, it had us instantly hooked- three women in a lift with thick tension in the air. The movie’s first proper trailer gives us more meat. Based on the true story of the scandal at Fox News, where its former CEO, Roger Ailes, was accused of sexual assault. Charlize Theron, who plays Megyn Kelly, looks like the spitting image of the journalist. Nicole Kidman plays Gretchen Carlson, who led a group of women in standing up against Ailes. Margot Robbie’s character, Kayla Pospisil, is actually fictional but is based on several women who have been victims of Aile’s harassment. The trailer gives us an insight into life at a News centre and a background on the three women that form the focus of the movie. We’re expecting a movie that will give us an exposé of this salacious scandal.
