After months of teasing, and with her insignia being called upon at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, we are finally getting a peep at one of the strongest Avengers who’ll have her own movie next year.
Academy Award winner Brie Larson (for her role in Room) adds some serious weight to the character of ace pilot Carol Danvers, who becomes one of the universe's mightiest heroes after the Earth is caught in the centre of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds, causing her to become part Kree and part human, she turns into Captain Marvel.
Here are 5 things we know about the movie:
1. Girl Power!
The movie is Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) 21st film and marks its first solo, female-led movie.
2. A Stellar Cast
Larson is joined by a group of stellar characters including Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury, with both eyes intact!), Djimon Hounsou (Korath), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Jude Law (Mar-Vell / Walter Lawson), Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Gemma Chan (Minn-Erva) and more.
3. It's Not an Origin Story
The movie, following in the footsteps of Spider-man: Homecoming, won’t be focusing on how she got her powers but starts with her already bestowed her gifts and had left earth to join the elite military team Starforce on the Kree planet of Hala. For the uninitiated, Starforce is akin to the SEAL team on earth, but in space.
4. Jude Law the Mentor
Law’s role as Walter Lawson plays mentor to Larson’s Danvers, teaching her how to control her powers. The subject of control is constantly echoed throughout the movie, be it powers or emotions.
5. Nick Fury has Both Eyes!
Jackson, as Nick Fury, isn’t the wise leader we know in the existing Avengers movies. Back in the 90s, he was just a lowly S.H.I.E.L.D. desk jockey. Jackson has been digitally re-aged to achieve a youthful effect.
