There’s a fresh wave of talent making notable moves in the film industry. These second-generation stars are stepping into the spotlight, bringing their own style and substance to the screen. These young stars, following in the footsteps of their well-known parents, are making their mark in Hollywood with their own unique flair. Whether it’s Lily-Rose Depp portraying Ellen Hutter in Nosferatu or Margaret Qually portraying the “new version” of Demi Moore in The Substance, they’re bringing fresh energy and new perspectives to their roles. Let’s take a closer look at some of the exciting names to keep an eye on in 2025.

Lily-Rose Depp in Nosferatu

As the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose Depp has had to navigate the challenges of being labeled a “nepo-baby”, but her remarkable performance in Nosferatu has proven otherwise. Directed by Robert Eggers and nominated for 4 Academy Awards, the film takes places in the 1830s and follows Thomas Hutter, a real estate agent who takes a trip to Transylvania. As Thomas leaves his new bride, Ellen, alone, she finds herself overwhelmed by loneliness. In a moment of desperation, she calls upon a supernatural being to ease her feelings, which unleashes a bizarre creature into her life. In this film, Depp plays Ellen Hutter with a performance that beautifully captures the raw emotions of fear and vulnerability, and establishes herself as a force to be reckoned with in the film industry. Depp has also taken on notable roles, such as pop idol Jocelyn in the HBO series The Idol, and Princess Catherine of Valois in The King opposite Timothée Chalamet.

Nico Parker in How to Train Your Dragon

Being the daughter of Thandiwe Newton and director and screenwriter Ol Parker, it seems Nico Parker was destined for the entertainment world. Growing up in a film-focused household, it’s no wonder that Parker has such amazing acting abilities. Her family background has undoubtedly influenced her career, helping her be part of exciting projects like the beloved classic How to Train Your Dragon. The iconic film came out in 2010 and tells the heartwamring story of Hiccup and his dragon friend, Toothless, as they go on some incredible adventures. It’s been 15 years since the original hit theaters, and now it’s finally getting a live-action remake! We’re in for a treat with Nico Parker joining the cast as Astrid Hofferson. Parker made her debut with the lead role in Dumbo (2019) and has only gained momentum since then, impressing audiences in works like The Last of Us. In the live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon, directed by Dean DeBlois from the original franchise, Nico brings a fresh perspective to the story, making sure that both longtime fans and newcomers can feel the magic all over again.

Margaret Qualley in The Substance

Margaret Qualley is the daughter of Andie MacDowell, best known for classics such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and Groundhog Day. It is clear Qualley has inherited a legacy of brilliant talent, and she is making a name for herself in the industry, gaining recognition for her role in the film The Substance. The Substance is a horror film that’s so intense, it can rattle even the toughest viewers. But what keeps people talking about it is its gripping storyline and the way it tackles tough messages about beauty standards for women, making it a must-see (with a little added caution).

For those who haven’t seen it yet, the film follows Elisabeth Sparkle, played by Demi Moore, a fading actress who gets fired by her boss for being "past her prime". Desperate to regain her youth, she turns to a mysterious substance that leads to shocking and harrowing consequences. It's in this twisted world that we meet Sue, portrayed by Margaret Qualley, who represents the younger, more attractive version of Elisabeth. Qualley could not be better for the role. She carries a depth and intensity that make her stand out. Qualley has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Golden Globes for the Substance, as well as Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy previously for The Maid, solidifying her as one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars. She also had a small but memorable role with Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, playing a member of the Manson Family.

Jack Quaid in Companion and Novocaine

Companion and Novocaine are two very different films, each with its own unique storyline, themes, and cast. But what ties them together is the undeniable talent of Jack Quaid. Quaid is the son of renowned actors Meg Ryan, known for classics like When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, and Sleepless in Seattle, and Dennis Quaid, who has starred in The Parent Trap, A Dog’s Purpose, and The Substance (if you don’t recognize this title, scroll up!) Growing up with parents who have made a lasting impact in the film industry, Jack is following in their footsteps with impressive leading roles in both movies.

In Companion, Quaid plays Josh Beamen, the antagonist in a wild story that kicks off during a weekend getaway at a remote cabin. What starts as a relaxing trip quickly turns chaotic when one of the guests turns out to be a malfunctioning robot designed for human companionship. On the flip side, Novocaine showcases Quaid as Nathan, a mild-mannered introvert who has a rare condition that prevents him from feeling physical pain. The quirky and comical situations that arise from this lead to some pretty entertaining moments.

In both films, Quaid shows off his range and talent, highlighting the potential of second-generation actors to take on diverse and engaging roles. Additionally, he starred as Hughie Campbell in The Boys, and portrayed physicist Richard Feyman in the Oscar-winning biopic Oppenhemier.

Lewis Pullman in Thunderbolts

Lewis Pullman, the talented son of actor Bill Pullman, is steadily carving his own path in the film industry. While Bill Pullman is celebrated for his memorable roles in films like Independence Day and Casper, Pullman is proving to be a rising star in his own right. He made his feature film debut in 2017 with The Ballad of Lefty Brown, a Western that features his father in the titular lead role, and played Lt. Robert 'Bob' Floyd in the Tom Cruise-led sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

Coming soon is the film Thunderbolts, which brings together an unconventional team of anti-heroes for a dangerous mission, forcing them to confront their personal struggles and unsettling events from their past. Lewis Pullman takes on the challenging role of Bob Reynolds, aka Sentry. Portraying one of Marvel’s most powerful and complex characters - who transitions from an ordinary person to a force to be reckoned with - Pullman must rise to the occasion. With Pullman as the arch villain, Thunderbolts is definitely a movie to keep an eye on!
