As everyone’s favourite scoundrel, a Han Solo origins story makes sense. After all, aren’t we all curious about how he pulled off that 12 parsec Kessel Run, or how a Wookie could be so devoted to a man he could easily crush, and just how did a charming fella like Solo ended up being an infamous smuggler?
With Rogue One in 2016 (Felicity Jones) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (Alden Ehrenreich) spelling success for the Star Wars franchise, here’re five other film ideas that we’d like to see made.
Bobba Fett
The Bounty Hunter’s screen-time in the Star Wars universe isn’t all that much, (not more than 10 minutes before he got eaten by the Sarlacc) but definitely impressionable. In fact, the bounty hunter is one of the more popular toy figures in the market, so we know the demand is pretty high for this fella. Forget about how the prequels butchered his backstory, Fett has inspired countless fans to create plenty of stories surrounding the character. Now, all we need is his own space saga.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
After The Force Awakens (2015), rumours were aplenty about Rey (Daisy Ridley)’s parentage, apart from the obvious “Luke must be her father”, there was also speculation that Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness) might have fathered the orphan scrap collector. After all, between the events of Revenge of the Sith where Anakin Skywalker went all rage-like and became Darth Vader and when we first saw Obi-wan hiding in Tatooine in A New Hope (1977), there are a good 18 years or so that were unaccounted for. How did he hide from Vader and Palpatine? Was he on Tatooine all this time, silently stalking Luke? We’ve got so many questions and no answer at all! And we know McGregor is keen on reprising the role, so let's keep our fingers crossed that this may happen!
Lando Calrissian
We first saw Lando (Billy Dee Williams) in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), a con man who oozes maximum charm. We know he and Han go way back, and their relationship is brought to life in Solo: A Star Wars Story. But surely a character as suave as Lando deserves his own story? The Empire Strikes Back alluded to a rich background to Lando, and we’d love to see more of him on the big screen. He’s made appearances in the Star Wars Rebels animated series, but it’s just not the same.
Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka isn’t a character from the live-action Star Wars movie, but she definitely ranks high on the popularity scale. We first saw her as the Padawan apprentice of Anakin Skywalker in the 2008 animated movie, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Subsequently, she also appeared in the animated TV series, Star Wars Rebels. What makes her so appealing is how Ahsoka embodies all the qualities of a Jedi, such as wisdom, bravery and has a good heart, but she isn’t one to blindly follow her leaders. She paves her own journey, even if it means getting away from the Jedi Order. She’s been a big part of Star Wars Rebels, guiding the young rebel upstarts in their efforts, but we want to know more about just her. She’s considered one of the strongest female characters in the Star Wars universe, and in this period of #TimesUp movement, seeing her take the lead in a gigantic movie franchise like Star Wars is going to send fans wild.
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
In the Star Wars universe, The Tales of the Jedi comic and Knights of the Old Republic game are definitely two of the most brilliantly told Star Wars stories. What makes them great is how they are not tied to the movies. They are refreshing and expose us to an incredibly vast Star Wars galaxy which was previously only as rich as the movies would deliver. The story of Knights of the Old Republic takes place around four centuries before the birth of the Galactic Empire, where Sith Lord Darth Malak unleashed a Sith fleet against the Republic. Unchartered territory, anyone?
