Panitia Piala Oscar atau Academy Awards mengumumkan daftar nominasi Oscar ke-93 pada Senin pagi 15 Maret 2021 waktu setempat, atau Senin malam WIB. Daftar nominasi dibacakan oleh pasangan aktris-aktor Priyanka Chopra dan Nick Jonas.

Tahun ini daftar nominasi dinilai makin beragam, tak terlalu terpusat pada sineas Hollywood, dan makin memberi ruang bagi para sineas perempuan. Sembilan dari 20 nominasi akting berasal dari latar belakang etnis minoritas. Sementara dua orang sineas perempuan dinominasi sebagai sutradara terbaik, hal pertama kali terjadi lebih dari satu perempuan, sepanjang sejarah 93 tahun penghargaan Oscar.
Pesta Oscar 2021, yang mengumumkan hasil akhir daftar nominasi ini, akan disiarkan secara langsung televisi ABC pada 25 April nanti.
Sound of Metal Gaet 6 Nominasi!
Apa yang menarik di antara jajaran nominasi tahun ini? Oscar yang sangat cerminkan keberagaman itu. Misalnya, film Sound of Metal gaet enam nominasi! Film besutan Darius Marder yang tayang di CATCHPLAY+ ini dibintangi Riz Ahmed, yang dinominasi Aktor Terbaik, dan Paul Raci, yang dinominasi Aktor Pendukung Terbaik. Selain itu, film ini juga gaet nominasi Tata Suara Terbaik dan Film Terbaik.
Sound of Metal kisahkan drummer grup heavy metal mantan pecandu narkoba Ruben, diperankan Riz Ahmed, mendadak kehilangan pendengarannya saat tur dengan pacarnya Lou. Ia pun mengalami rasa cemas luar biasa dan hidupnya kacau balau. Di rumah kelompok bagi pecandu Tunarungu, Ruben harus memilih antara komunitas Tunarungu barunya dan kehidupan band yang ditinggalkannya.
Riz Ahmed adalah aktor pertama keturunan Pakistan yang mendapatkan nominasi Oscar dan Muslim pertama dari negeri itu yang menjadi aktor terbaik.
Lewat akun Twitter @rizwanahmed, Riz Ahmed menyatakan rasa terhormatnya dinominasi dan rasa syukurnya karena ia juga dinominasi bersama sutradara yang visioner dan aktor pendukung yang brilian. “Wow! I'm honoured to be nominated by my fellow actors alongside such inspiring performances, and am grateful to the Academy for their support and encouragement. I’m equally thrilled for our visionary writer-director Darius Marder and the brilliant Paul Raci...” begitu tulisnya.

Sementara itu, tahun ini setidaknya enam aktor dan aktris kulit hitam masuk daftar nominasi, menyamai rekor pada 2017, di antaranya Daniel Kaluuya, Chadwick Boseman dan Andra Day.
