Summer loving, warm hugs giving and full of energy. We first saw Olaf in Frozen as the funny little snowman with a big heart. If you can’t get enough of Olaf then, you’re in luck now. Olaf's Frozen Adventure is a 21-minute featurette giving us a more in-depth look at the loveable snowman who’s full of good intentions despite not so well executed moves. Here’re five reasons why you shouldn’t miss this Olaf featurette.
1. Connecting Frozen and its sequel
If you love the 2013’s Frozen and can’t wait for its sequel in 2019, Olaf's Frozen Adventure serves as a bridge between the two movies. Frankly, six years is just too long for us to wait for more adventures from Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell). Olaf’s adventures remind us of Arendelle and show us how the sisters’ relationship is after Elsa’s return from her frozen escapades. By fleshing out more on Olaf here, we can probably expect more of him in the Frozen sequel!
2. Christmas Traditions From All Around the World
The theme of Olaf's Frozen Adventure is essentially about family, and the story premise takes Olaf out and about, hunting down a unique Christmas tradition for the Arendelle sisters. He does this by doing research on what other families do for their holiday traditions, and ends up learning and introducing to the audiences the different cultures from all over the world.
3. The Bond Between the Elsa and Anna
In Frozen, the growing up years of the sisters was fast-forwarded. All we saw were how the sisters grew up with a door always standing in between them because Elsa was afraid to accidentally freeze any part of Anna. Anna, on the other hand, could not understand why Elsa grew increasingly distant, having her memory erased after that childhood incident that almost took her life. In Olaf's Frozen Adventure, we get a peek into these growing up years, where Anna never stops trying to get through to Elsa, by gifting her hand-drawn portraits of their beloved Olaf every Christmas, which Elsa keeps religiously. This also gives more meaning to the song “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” in Frozen, because Olaf is the bond between the two sisters.
4. More Olaf
In Frozen, we get an idea that Olaf is no ordinary snowman, with his always sunny disposition and positive thinking. In this featurette, we get a deeper look into our favourite snowman, and his tenacity in completing his task no matter what obstacles stand in his way. It also teaches your little ones to always look on the positive side and never give up.
5. New Songs!
There’s no denying that after Frozen came out, “Let It Go” became part of our everyday lives. You hear it on the radio, your kids sing it non-stop, and it became a karaoke favourite. Admit it, we even find ourselves humming along to the song sub-consciously. Now, in Olaf's Frozen Adventure, there are actually four original songs. The song at the end, “When We Are Together” underwent four to five versions before the final version was agreed upon. The other three songs are "Ring in the Season", "The Ballad of Flemmingrad" and "That Time of Year". It’s time to learn the lyrics and sing along.
