Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Teaser Has Sailed In!

Disney have hoisted the sails on its first teaser for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. It looks dark and grim with Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow nowhere to be found, except for his crude image on a wanted poster that is being trampled on by Javier Bardem stealing the show as new antagonist Captain Salazar.

Bardem's ghostly pirate picking up a "wanted" poster bearing Sparrow's likeness.

Worry not, rest assured that you will see more of Depp’s presence in the upcoming regular trailer, which will likely also feature Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom, since both of them have signed up for the fifth installment. Safe to assume we are going to miss Keira Knightley.

Bloom reprises another of his big franchise roles after returning as Legolas in The Hobbit series. Here he plays Will Turner, the new captain of The Flying Dutchman last seen in the third installment. Back in 2014, Bloom hoped his character would be outside of his usual role types: the good-looking hero: "It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly." We will soon see if the studio dared to cover up his pretty face with seaweed and shellfish.

Last appearing in At World's End in 2007, Bloom returns to the Pirates franchise.

Here is the official synopsis from Disney:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea... including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (four films to date) is a huge financial success, collecting a total of $3.7 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the 11th highest grossing franchise ever. The film is expected to release in theatres on 26 May, 2017. You can check out the teaser trailer below.
